Overview of last week(19.08-23.08.2013)

Overview of  last week (19.08-23.08.2013)
Hey English bunnies,
Our topic of last week was “SURVEILLANCE”. We got a text “Tracking Internet Users” by Jonathan Strickland and it broaches on a new investigation to retain personal data for the government. Beneath the text there was a picture with the different international security groups (FBI, NSA, CIA). The cartoon should show that nothing is safe and that somebody can see our messages or posts at any time. They use it to prevent terrorism but DO WE WANT THAT?

  •  If you have nothing to fear, you have nothing to hide!

First I will remind you of some important steps for analysing a cartoon:
1) Introduction (title, author, time, text type)
2) A little description about the cartoon
3) Analysis
4) Interpretation/ Meaning+ Message
5) Own opinion/ conclusion

We did a little vocab quiz but forget about it :P
The next text comes from the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and the title was “Kameras statt Sicherheit”. This is the next big focus for this week ->CAMERAS IN SCHOOLS!! The government of some cities in Germany want cameras in schools to prevent vandalism and burglary. It is a German text so it is a mediation task for sure so our task was to write a letter to our parents to inform them about surveillance in school.
A good introduction should start like “Dear mom and dad, vacations are boring and I started to read the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” where I found an article about surveillance in school. (...)”
We were divided in 3 groups to prepare a speech and a flyer.
Group 1) Surveillance in school: YES
Group 2) Surveillance in school: NO
Group 3) Surveillance in school: YES BUT ONLY IN SOME PARTS OF THE SCHOOL
(You will find the speeches in the blog)

Preparing a flyer is not that easy as we first thought. The first flyer had lots of pictures and no text and some had too much text and no pictures. We disappointed Mr Schütt a lot :/
But never mind we had the criteria for writing a proposal and/or text for a flyer were we had to improve our first flyer.
The most important steps are:
1) Which target group do you want to address?????
2) What is your intention???
3) Which arguments do you want to use????
4) What are the most important arguments????
5) Which design helps you to convey your message???

Remember: use at least 1/ 2 pictures!!!
Structure your flyer!!!!
Use different colours!!!!
Address your target group!!!!
Make the message clear!!!!

I guess this should be enough for the beginning and I hope it will help you! I WANT ALL OF YOU TO READ IT BECAUSE YOU KNOW I’M AJ ;) :D
